March 10, 2010

Angelo State University’s Livestock Show Teams recently concluded another successful season on the Texas stock show circuit, bringing home a host of ribbons and Grand Champion prizes for their Rambouillet sheep and Angus cattle.

The Rambouillet Show Team was particularly dominant as it showed its flock at the state’s major stock shows in Fort Worth, San Antonio, San Angelo and Houston. In Fort Worth, the team showed the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion rams and also scored three first-place ribbons, four seconds, two thirds and one fourth-place finish in eight other categories.

In San Antonio, the team again showed the Reserve Grand Champion ram and picked up one first-place ribbon, three seconds and one third in three other categories.

Another Grand Champion ram prize highlighted the team’s efforts in San Angelo as members also garnered three first-place ribbons, four seconds, one third and two fourth-place finishes in seven additional categories.

The Rambouillet team wrapped up its season in Houston by showing the Reserve Champion ram and adding two second-place and two third-place ribbons in two other categories.

The Angus Show Team only showed its heifers in Houston, and came away with the Reserve Junior Champion female. Team members also picked up one first-place ribbon, one second-place and one third-place for their heifer yearlings and calves.

The Rambouillet Show Team is captained by senior Jerred Griffith and also includes seniors Lura Hayes and Casey Grounds, and freshmen Kara Hoegenauer, Glen Hudson and Ben Sides.

Angus Show Team members are graduate students Kayla Brooks and Sarah Lange, sophomores Halie Schaefer and Kasie Wagenfehr, and freshman Devin Absher.
