ASU Professor Receives Special Education Grant

March 23, 2010

Dr. Richard Evans, assistant professor of teacher education at Angelo State University, has received a $3,000 grant to assess the value special education candidates and practicing teachers place on professional knowledge and skills.

Evans received the grant from the Consortium for Research on Educational Access, Transitions and Equity (CREATE), which is composed of state universities that advocate for necessary improvements in university-based teacher preparation.

The group promotes information-driven, research-based changes in universities’ colleges of education.

According to Evans, the data collected will allow the special education faculty in the teacher education department to evaluate ASU’s special education program and make changes as needed to improve teacher preparation at the university.
