ASU Advertising Club Third Runner-up in District Competition

April 19, 2010

Angelo State University’s Advertising Club finished as third runner-up at the American Advertising Federation’s (AAF) National Student Advertising Competition District 10 in Amarillo on Thursday.

The ASU club improved eight places from 2009 when it finished 12th out of 14 teams. Winner of this year’s competition was Texas State University at San Marcos, second was Oklahoma State University and third was Texas A&M-Kingsville. Among other universities finishing after ASU were Baylor University, Lamar University, University of Texas at Arlington, Southern Methodist University and West Texas A&M.

Dr. Johnathan Marlow, Advertising Club adviser, credited the team’s success to the leadership of club president Anna-Marie Parker, with assistance from graduate student Kaitlyn Sosolik.

Presentation team leader was Sadie Edwards, creative team leader was Jason Steel, presentation aides team leader was Marissa Williams, script team leader was Kendall Brawner and Parker was book team leader. Marlow also lauded Ad Club vice president Lauren Higgins for her leadership.

Presenters included Parker, Edwards, Bradley Holcomb, Travis Valliant and Tyler Carson. They presented their successful State Farm Insurance campaign, titled “W.H.A.T! (We Have All That!).”

State Farm Insurance commissioned the nationwide project through the AAF to seek solutions to its loss of market share in the 18-to-25 age bracket.

The Ad Club’s team traveled to the competition using money from ASU’s Student Leadership Development Fund.
