ASU Small Business Center to Co-Sponsor Exporting Symposium

Local and areas businesses interested in international exporting are invited to attend the Concho Valley Exporting Symposium ’10, co-sponsored by the Angelo State University Small Business Development Center, on Monday, May 17, at the McNease Convention Center, 500 Rio Concho Drive.

The symposium is titled “One day. Ten Experts. A World of Opportunities.” and is designed to bring in experts from across Texas to teach businesses the technical skills they need to export products and services.

Symposium activities will run from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. May 17, and advance reservations are now available. Activities will include expert speakers, a business exhibitor showcase, exporting success stories and a panel discussion. Speakers will address the essentials of exporting, international shipping and finance, finding importers, and the services available through Sbdcglobal.com and other agencies that help connect the small businesses of the world.

Speakers will include Harold Dominguez, San Angelo city manager; Douglas Smith, assistant director of the International Trade Center (ITC) at the University of Texas at San Antonio; Harry Henson, director of the U.S. Export Assistance Center; Berenice Carmona, site specialist at Sbdcglobal.com; Carla Gonzalez, ITC senior international business consultant; Kelly Kemp, business development officer at the Export-Import Bank of the U.S.; and Richard Rayne from Federal Express international sales.

Cost to attend the symposium is $20 per person in advance or $25 at the door. A luncheon catered by the Mesquite Bean Café and Catering Co. is included in the cost. The early registration deadline is May 13.

Various sponsorship opportunities at several different levels are also available to local and area businesses. All sponsorships include a booth for the business showcase.

Title co-sponsors for the symposium also include the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, Concho Valley Workforce Development Board, Concho Valley Center for Entrepreneurial Development, San Angelo Development Corporation, Downtown San Angelo Inc. and the South-West Texas Border Small Business Development Center Network.
