Caldwell H.S. Student Wins Top ASU Scholarship

April 20, 2015

Quint Anderson, a senior at Caldwell High School, has been awarded a Distinguished Carr Scholarship worth up to $60,000 to attend Angelo State University in San Angelo this fall.

The Distinguished Carr Scholarship is ASU’s most prestigious scholarship for academic achievement. To recognize Anderson for his achievements, ASU will conduct a Carr Signing Day event at noon on Thursday, April 23, in the library at Caldwell High School. Anderson plans to major in biology and enter the pre-med program at ASU. He has also been accepted into the ASU Honors Program.

Carr Scholarships are renewable for four years and range in value from $1,500 to $15,000 per year. Scholarship awards are based on high school grade point average and standardized test scores on the ACT or SAT college entrance exams. Fewer than 10 Distinguished Carr Scholarships are awarded to new incoming students per year, providing each recipient with $15,000 annually. To be selected for the top award, students must score at least 32 on the ACT or 1400 on the SAT, maintain a high school cumulative GPA of at least 3.5, and interview with ASU administrators.

Other 2015 Carr Distinguished Scholarship recipients are Angela Chen of Brandeis High School in San Antonio, Cooper Jones of Borger High School in Borger, Jacob Meixner of Euless Trinity High School in Euless, and Clay Wegner and Sarah Champagne of Central High School in San Angelo.

Carr Scholarships are funded by a $100 million endowment, one of the largest in the nation at a regional university. Robert G. Carr and his wife, Nona K. Carr, who bequeathed their interests in oil, gas and other minerals from producing properties in West Texas, made the Carr Foundation possible.
