September 03, 2015

Angelo State University graduate student Hannah Dodds has been named 2014-15 Texas Student Teacher of the Year by the Texas Directors of Field Experiences (TDFE).

Dodds was one of three students statewide selected for the honor for demonstrating classroom management skills, instructional strategies that support the needs and curriculum of all students, effective interpersonal relationships, and for their reflections about the teaching and learning process. She and her fellow honorees, one from the University of North Texas and one from Sam Houston State University, will be recognized at the 2015 Consortium of State Organizations for Teacher Education (CSOTTE) Conference next month in Frisco.

A Wall native, Dodds earned her ASU bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies with teacher certification in early childhood through sixth grade in 2014 and is now enrolled in ASU’s Master of Education in educational administration program. She did her student teaching at Wall Elementary School in fall of 2014 and is now a second-grade teacher at Glenmore Elementary in the San Angelo Independent School District.

Hannah Dodds Hannah Dodds “I come from a family of educators,” Dodds said. “My love of teaching was discovered, not in college, but many years ago in a kindergarten classroom. I consider teaching more of a calling than a job, and I look forward to many years in the profession.”

Dodds worked at a local boutique throughout her undergraduate years and was involved in numerous activities on campus. As vice president of Kappa Delta Pi, the international honor society for education, she led a successful event to promote literacy. She is also a member of Alpha Chi and Phi Kappa Phi national honor societies, San Angelo’s Glen Meadows Baptist Church and Chi Alpha College Ministries. She was a 2013–14 selection for Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and was awarded a scholarship from San Angelo Retired Teachers Association for her dedication to education.

TDFE, a member organization of CSOTTE, is composed of those individuals in public and private educational institutions in the state of Texas who are responsible for administration and coordination of the program of educational field experiences in their respective institutions.
