She had been employed for various years and knew she was ready to take the next step and start her own counseling practice in San Angelo. In seeking guidance, Alicia turned to Advisor Pedro Ramirez and the Angelo State University - Small Business Development Center. Alicia requested assistance with the initial startup phase and financial analysis upon the creation of her new business.

In 2010, Alicia finally started her business. She stated that the ASU-SBDC provided help with “bookkeeping, business plans, marketing, and other logistical issues from both individual counseling and workshops.”
