Brief Bio

Dr. Doyle Carter returned to his alma mater during the summer of 2006 after serving most recently as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor of Kinesiology at Lubbock Christian University. He began his career in 1983 as a high school teacher and coach. In higher education, he has also previously served as a college dean and a department chair.

At ASU, Dr. Carter served as Kinesiology Department Head from 2006 to 2010.  In 2010, he was appointed as the Director of the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) and led ASU’s QEP development process. ASU’s QEP, entitled CONNECT!, was approved in 2013 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC). As Director of the Center for Community Engagement, Dr. Carter is responsible for implementing the CONNECT! program. The focus of that work is to assist faculty in designing, implementing, and assessing learning strategies that engage (CONNECT!) students with the campus and community.

As director, Dr. Carter was also responsible for developing ASU’s application for the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification. ASU achieved this recognition in January, 2015.

Dr. Carter has recently been selected as a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Community Engagement and Scholarship and as a Fellow for the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) Faculty Collaboratives Project.

Dr. Carter is involved in his community though the United Way, his son’s school, and his church.  He previously served as board chair for the local American Red Cross chapter.
