Jayna Phinney joined the Office of Communications and Marketing in 2009. Prior to that, she worked as the business and health reporter for the San Angelo Standard-Times, where she was part of reporting teams that earned two E. W. Scripps honors for news coverage. While working at the newspaper, she met her husband, Matt.
During her time at ASU, Jayna has contributed to several American Advertising Federation-San Angelo ADDY® Awards for her writing on the ASU website and in university publications. She was a 2010-11 Staff Excellence award nominee and was nominated in 2011-12 for the President’s Award for Staff Excellence for her commitment to excellence.
Jayna earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication in 2006 from New Mexico State University. In 2012, she completed her master’s degree in communication at Angelo State University.
Jayna grew up in Silver City, N.M. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, reading and spending time with her husband and two daughters.
