Air Force ROTC Physical Fitness
Air Force ROTC cadets must meet physical fitness (PT) standards. To do so, Det 847 provides weekly PT sessions and a physical fitness test each semester.
Before participating in PT, cadets must complete and submit a Sports Physical stating they are physically able to exercise.
Weekly PT
All cadets must attend 2 scheduled PT sessions per week.
Currently, we have 3 sets of options:
Monday and Wednesday at 7:45am
Tuesday and Thursday at 7:45am
Tuesday and Thursday at 3pm
Students are expected to pick one set of these 3 workout options.
Physical Fitness Test (PFT)
Weekly PT enables cadets to pass the PFT at the end of each semester. The PFT consists of the following events:
- Sit ups (1-minute)
- Push-ups (1-minute)
- 1.5 mile run (time differs for age and gender)
Each event is scored. Cadets must achieve a minimum of 75 points total to pass. All cadets must take the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) at least once a semester
Why is fitness important?
Instead of gaining the "freshman 15" like other college students, cadets will see and
feel the benefits of fitness.
Studies have shown that college students with a regular fitness schedule have a higher GPA than those
who don't!
Students who continue in Air Force ROTC, will find they do better at Field Training (FT).
FT is
intense and physically demanding. The better shape you are in BEFORE you get there, the better you will do.
All this adds up to higher scores for pilot candidates and better chances at competing for your dream job!
