Angelo State University offers two routes for those who already possess a Bachelor’s degree to obtain teacher certification. One route is for graduate school candidates to complete the requirements for Texas Teacher Certification while completing their Master's degree.
The other route allows candidates to take additional coursework at an undergraduate level to complete State certification requirements. This route offers two programs – one for EC-6 Generalist Certification and another for specific teaching fields at all other levels.

*Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT)
All candidates must pass the PACT TExES in their content field prior to program admission or issuance of a probationary certificate in the case of the Master’s program. The PACT is the only content test required for initial certification. All candidates must also pass a pedagogy test (PPR) before they can be recommended for certification.

**Observations / Field Experiences
Candidates must complete at least 30 clock hours of field experiences prior to admission to the EC-6 Generalist Post-Baccalaureate program and the M.A. in Curriculum & Instruction program. Forms for completion of the field experiences must be obtained from the program advisor as noted in the chart. Forms need to be signed by the classroom teachers hosting the candidate. All field experiences must be completed in the area and grade level of the certification being sought.

Frequently Asked Questions:
- Are any of the programs online? The Master of Arts in C&I is predominantly online. All other programs require attendance on campus during the day.
- Can I earn an income while completing the teaching requirement? Only if you choose the MA in C&I. This program allows candidates to teach on a probationary certificate for a year while earning a teacher salary.
