Departmental Goals

Purpose

Students completing the Bachelor of Science Program in Chemistry or Biochemistry will have developed a depth of understanding of the field sufficient to obtain technical employment, pursue graduate study, and conduct laboratory research.

Goals

Students completing the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Biochemistry program should:
  1. Compare favorably in their knowledge of chemistry with those completing a similar program nationally.
  2. Be able to produce and evaluate experimental data in a research environment.
  3. Be adequately prepared for study in graduate school.
  4. Be adequately prepared to obtain employment in technical areas related to chemistry and biochemistry.
Chemistry and Biochemistry faculty should:
  1. Strive to provide students with the best educational experience possible.
  2. Encourage students to perform academic research. This should include encouraging students to do research at ASU as well as participate in summer research opportunities abroad.
  3. Perform well in areas of teaching, research and service.
