Science Scholarships

Welch Research Scholarship

This scholarship is open to chemistry and biochemistry majors who wish to do research at Angelo State University with a professor in our department. A call for research proposals for this scholarship is sent out toward the end of the fall and spring semester. Current distributions are $1,200 and $3,200 for long semesters and summer research, respectively.

Special Academic Scholarships

These are special scholarships awarded to biochemistry, chemistry, physics, mathematics or modern language majors. SAS scholarships are awarded strictly on an academic basis and are only awarded to incoming freshman who are not transfer students. The offering of this particular scholarship is contingent upon students taking courses in the degree plan of their respective major each long semester that they attend ASU. Students must also apply for the Carr Academic Scholarship (see information below).

You still need to fill out a Special Academic Scholarship form, which can be obtained from Dr. Shankle or the Financial Aid office, in order to be consideblue for this scholarship.

Dr. Merrill W. Everhart

Available to junior students majoring in the natural sciences with a 3.00 or better GPA. One scholarship is available per year.

Delbert Tarter

Provided to deserving students majoring in chemistry. Usually, one scholarship is awarded per year.

Olson-Buttery

Open to deserving students majoring in pre-pharmacy, pre-medicine or nursing.

San Angelo Community Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship

The San Angelo Community Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduate of a Texas high school who is a junior or senior ASU student majoring in any medical or medically related field.

Carr Research Scholarship

The Carr Research Scholarship provides students with the opportunity to perform research in an undergraduate setting.

Carr Academic Scholarship

Many of the students in our department are on a Carr Academic Scholarship. In fact, many of the students at ASU are on a Carr Academic Scholarship.
