Program Information
Hello, I'm Doyle Carter and I serve as Head of the Department of Kinesiology and Graduate Advisor. I'd like to provide you with some general information about our program. Other, more specific information can be found in other sections of this website.
Our program is a very flexible and broad-based study of kinesiology. It is designed to meet the diverse needs of current and prospective kinesiology professionals. These professionals work in a variety of clinical, community, corporate, and educational settings, a reflection of our society's increased understanding of the benefits of a physically active lifestyle. As a result, more kinesiology-related jobs and career choices are being created making the graduate degree in kinesiology more valuable.
Angelo State University has an exemplary reputation as a quality institution of higher education. This is due, in large part to our outstanding faculty. The faculty members of the Department of Kinesiology are highly regarded by their peers and their students. We are interested in you and your success and will go out of our way to challenge you and help you to be the best you can be.
In an effort to help you understand who we are, I would like for you to read the core values that we have adopted and hope to instill in you as a student and a fellow kinesiology professional.
Department of Kinesiology Core Values
The faculty and staff of the Department of Kinesiology endeavor to uphold a body of core values through our actions and interactions with students, parents and other members of the ASU community. These values are:

- Character and Professionalism - We value respectfulness, honesty, integrity, humility, dependability, competence, and other attributes and manifestations of strength of character and professional ethic.
- Academic Excellence - We value scholarship, scientific inquiry, and liberal learning within and beyond the academic discipline of kinesiology.
- Effective Communication - We value shared information- its availability, timeliness, accuracy, and tone, for its ability to aid in decision-making, problem solving, and community-building.
- Physically Active Lifestyles - We value physical activity and its significant contribution to health and wellness throughout the lifespan.
