Foreign Language Competition

Please save the date.
ASU's Foreign Language Competition will take place on Saturday, April 4, 2009.
The ASU Foreign Language Festival will become a Competition, and because we are most interested that the new Competition be very do-able for teachers and their best students, we're designing it from the ground up.
The new ASU Competition would showcase each student in five (5) required events:
a prepared piece (either poetry or prose)
a written test
computer-assisted listening and reading comprehension tests
an extemporaneous speaking activity (from either a visual or situational cue)--with a suitable alternative category for Latin students.
We are considering an optional category for creative performance/product (such as a play, a painting, an original poem, a song).
Judges will use criteria from ACTFL for judging, the same criteria as found at http://www.sedl.org/loteced/products/framework2.pdf.
Students will get ribbons, schools will get trophies, teachers will get a fabulous sit-down lunch, and, conceivably, the winning student of each category would receive a scholarship to ASU.
We would very much appreciate your feedback, your suggestions and concerns about the proposed plans. Email us at modernlanguages@angelo.edu.
We hope you and your school share our enthusiasm, and we thank you for your patience during the planning process.
