ASU FIRST

(Finding Insight and Raising Success Together)

Purpose

This program is designed to give West Texas-area high school students who plan to be the first in their families to attend college the opportunity to get their “first” look at ASU.  Students participate in a one-day event on campus that will help them gather information and feel at ease about attending college.

Goals

• Provide prospective students with information about the first-generation programs, admissions process and financial aid programs at ASU.
• Provide information about the services offered to students at ASU.
• Offer prospective students the opportunity to hear about the ASU experiences of current and former students.
• Offer prospective students the opportunity to experience college life with a campus tour and lunch in the University Center cafeteria.

Participants

• First-generation students (neither parent graduated from a two- or four-year college or university)
• Typically juniors and seniors
• Attendees of high schools in Regions XIV, XV and XVIII

Workshops

Admissions	Learn about the ASU admission process.
Financial Aid	Learn about financial aid and the options available to help pay for college.
Campus Services	Discover the various services available to students on campus at ASU.
Majors/Careers	Get information about the majors available at ASU and the career paths they can lead to.
“If I Had Only Known…”	Hear from past and present ASU students who are also first-generation. Learn about their experiences at ASU and in their professional careers.
Campus Life/First-Generation Programs	Learn about campus life at ASU as well as the first-generation programs offered on campus.
