Mother Daughter Academy
Purpose
The ASU Mother Daughter Academy was developed to encourage first-generation girls to complete their high school educations and continue their academic achievements by attending college.
Selection Process and Criteria
Designated San Angelo Independent School District representatives of the program will nominate students based on these criteria:
- Rank in the top half of their class
- Have successfully completed all sections of the TAKS
- Are first-generation college-bound students (neither parent has graduated college)
- Demonstrate exemplary behavior
Benefits
- Access to ASU similar to that of current students
- Exposure to higher education and professional careers
- Mothers become informed so they will be supportive assets to their daughters’ educational decision-making process.
Activities
All activities are centered on three main goals:
- Exposure to higher education and professional careers
- Development of leadership skills and self-esteem
- Increased parental commitment to higher education

- Leadership Workshops
- Summer Programs
