RAMS Mentor Program

(Raising And Meeting Standards)

Purpose

The RAMS Program was developed to equip first-generation students with the knowledge and skills to succeed in higher education. Students will be connected with peer mentors, faculty and staff, organizations, events and programs that will enrich their college experience.

Goals

• Provide valuable skill sets necessary for a successful transition into college.
• Connect participants with first-generation role models and mentors that will encourage and support their higher education goals.
• Increase participants’ cultural awareness through campus and community activities.

Participants

Mentees

• First-generation students (neither parent graduated from a two- or four-year college or university)
• First-semester freshmen
• Enrolled full-time at ASU
• Committed to ASU for the full duration of the program

Mentors

• First-generation students
• Have attended ASU for a minimum of two long semesters
• Enrolled full-time at ASU
• Committed to ASU for the full duration of the program

Student Benefits

Students receive personalized attention from a program coordinator who will help monitor both their social and academic progress. Participants also have access to cultural activities, community events, and campus organizations and services that will serve as a support system throughout their time at ASU. Upon successful completion of the program, students will have the opportunity to apply for scholarships to be awarded to an outstanding mentee and an outstanding mentor. Mentees will also have the opportunity to become mentors to future students.
