Entering Freshmen
Criteria for Selection
Carr Academic Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis, with priority given to individuals of high academic ability. Additional funding may be available depending upon financial need and the review of the scholarship application and reference form. To compete favorably for a Carr Academic Scholarship, high school seniors must:
- Rank in the top 55 percent of their class, and score a minimum 1020 SAT
(combined math and verbal) or a minimum composite 22 ACT.
Consideration is given to the following:
- Academic Record
- Extracurricular Activities
- Honesty and Integrity
- Initiative and Motivation
- Leadership
- Moral Character
- Special Talents and Abilities
Amounts of Scholarship Awards

Deadline for Applications
The priority deadline for new applications and all supporting materials is December 1. Applications may be considered after this priority deadline to the extent that funds are available.
Selection and Notification of Scholarship Recipients
Applicants for Carr Academic Scholarships will be notified in writing regarding the status of their applications. The decisions on scholarship awards are final and are not subject to appeal.
Out-Of-State Tuition Waivers
Carr Academic Scholarships awarded to out-of-state and international students will normally qualify such students to pay the tuition and fees required of Texas residents.
Admission to Angelo State University
The award of a Carr Academic Scholarship assures admission to the University, subject to the timely submission of the required documents specified in the University Catalog. An entering freshman who applies for a Carr Academic Scholarship must also submit an Application for Admission to Angelo Sate University through the Admissions Office. Applicants should make arrangements to take the ACT or SAT1 as soon as possible.
Carr Academic Scholarships are awarded without regard to race, color, religion, age, gender, national origin, or disability.
The criteria and procedures for scholarship awards and the application dates and deadlines may be changed by Angelo State University without notice.

Special Academic Scholarship Application. Only entering Freshman students are eligible to apply for the Special Academic Scholarship.
The Special Academic Scholarship comes from a $100,000 allocation by the Office of the President at Angelo State University. This scholarship is focused on increasing enrollment in rigorous academic disciplines of Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, French, German, and Physics.- These scholarships will be awarded to a select number of students with superior academic potential as demonstrated by their high school record, class rank, ACT/ SAT1 scores, and references.
- Preference will be given to individuals whose high school course of study and scholastic aptitudes best support a degree program listed above.
- These scholarships may increase the Carr Academic Scholarship award up to the cost of attendance to Angelo State University.
