EHS&RM offers a variety of training opportunities. A list of the available types of training programs appears below.
Cart Safety Training
- The objective of this training is to help faculty, staff and students understand the safety rules of driving a cart on university grounds.
- This training class also covers:
- Pre-trip check
- Cart driving instructions
- Parking and leaving instructions
- Unique circumstances
- Class length 30 minutes
- Offered monthly
Van Training
- This class helps faculty and staff understand the unique characteristics of 12 and 15 passenger vans.
- It helps drivers identify and understand the safe driving techniques specific to vans.
- Class length 2 ½ hours
- Offered twice a year
Forklift Training
- Forklift training is geared toward the staff employed by Facilities Management.
- This training points out the characteristics of forklifts, including handling, capacity, load center and center of gravity.
- It is a combination of classroom instruction and field training.
- Training length 1 ½ hours
- Offered yearly
Office Safety/Ergonomics Training
- This training is recommended for all office personnel.
- This training coaches employees on ergonomics, safe lifting techniques and how to avoid the daily hazards in an office environment.
- Class length 30 minutes
- Offered twice a year
Fall Protection
- This training instructs facility maintenance workers on specific working conditions and when fall protection is needed.
- It also informs employees the types of fall protection available.

Hazardous Materials Handling
- This safety training is for anyone in our campus community who is exposed to potentially hazardous or chemical waste.
- It helps those working with hazardous or chemical waste identify the unique properties and characteristics of that waste.
- This training teaches the purpose of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and the importance of keeping them accessible.
- Attendees will be trained in the different types of proper personal protective Equipment (PPE).
- Class length 1 hour
- Offered once a year
Hand Tool Safety
- This safety training teaches basic tool safety rules. These rules include, but are not limited to Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), power tool precautions, pneumatic tool safety, powder actuated tool safety and jack safety.
- Class length 1 ½ hours
- Offered once a year
Grounds/Landscaping Safety
- The objective of this training is to help grounds maintenance personnel understand the safety rules of grounds and landscaping tools, equipment and machinery.
- This class will also inform attendees about hot weather safety, back and lifting safety and how to identify and avoid poisonous plants and animals.
- Class length 2 hours
- Offered once a year
