Computer Lab Procedures

Unauthorized copying of software materials from lab computers, or installing software on lab computers is prohibited.

Food, drinks, and tobacco products are prohibited in the computer labs.

Under the copyright laws of the United States, all intellectual property is granted copyright protection. Angelo State University network users, whether accessing the network from computer labs, offices, residence halls, wireless or dialup, are required to comply with all copyright laws. The distribution of copyrighted material from your computer, including software, music, games, and videos, for which you do not have the owner's permission is a violation of federal law (DMCA). Downloading files makes you personally liable if you are found to possess copyrighted material that you have not obtained legally. Being a student does not protect you from a copyright complaint. In fact, we may be legally required to assist a complainant in pursuing action against you. The penalties can range from University sanctions to civil and criminal prosecution. Individual copyright owners and the entertainment industry are very active in pursuing legal actions. Your only protection is to not possess or distribute any unlicensed copyrighted material.

Be aware that "a person commits an offense if he intentionally or knowingly displays or distributes an obscene photograph, drawing, or similar visual representation or other obscene material and is reckless about whether a person is present who will be offended or alarmed by the display or distribution." (V.T.C.A., Penal code Title 9, SS 43.22)

Students must present their ASU OneCard in order to check out equipment, get an account or change a password. No other ID is acceptable.

When listening to audio, headphones must be used and the volume must be kept at a level low enough to not disturb others. Patrons are discouraged from using cell phones and pagers in the computer lab. Please conduct conversations outside of the computer lab and keep pagers off or set to vibrate.

If a child is accompanying a parent or guardian to a computer lab, they are responsible for making sure the child is not disruptive to other users.

Computer Lab employees have the authority to request proper ID of patrons. Patrons unwilling to provide such identification may be requested to leave. If the patron(s) refuse to leave or stop disruptive behavior, computer lab staff members may notify the University Police and ask for their assistance.
