Frequently Asked Questions
Introduction
Internet worms and viruses are an ever-changing and ever-present threat to computer users on our campus, and all over the world. There’s a chance that this has already affected your personal system, and, if so, you know how long it can take to clean a compromised system. We are continually striving to help campus users stay protected from these threats and this project is one of our latest initiatives. While Clean Access itself does not protect you against Viruses and Trojans; it helps everyone involved know that you have taken the necessary steps to help prevent the spread of such items on the ASU network.

What will I have to do?
- When your computer or mobile device first contacts the new network, a web page prompt will guide you through a standard process for assessing your system and authenticating your machine for network access. If your mobile device, printer, or game console does not have a screen to display this web page prompt, you can manually register this device from a computer with a web browser.
How often will I have to be re-validated?
- You will have a 21 day period before having to re-validate
What is the clean Access Agent, and what does it check in order to successfully connect to the internet?
- Clean Access Agent is a client application that will check certain security settings on your Microsoft Windows PC to make sure that your system is up-to-date with required security patches and report this status to the server. No personal information about you is sent to the server.
How does validation work?
- Clean Access will "intercept" any Internet browser access and redirect the user to a web page that instructs you to download and install the validation client known as "Clean Access Agent". Once launched, the client downloads the validation rules and processes them.
How does validation work for Macintosh/Linux users?
- MAC/Linux users will not have a client to install, but will be redirected to an authentication page which will require you to log in with your ASU credentials
I'm on a Macintosh or Linux machine. I've opened my browser but I am not redirected to a login page. What do I do?
- You may have to try to go to a non-local site such as www.google.com
Why can I not connect my console? (XBox, Playstation, etc...)
- Each console will have to be registered before use. Please go to: Console Registration
- You will be required to enter your username and password as well as the game consoles MAC address
- If you have issues or questions you can open a request by calling (325)942-2911 or emailing them at helpdesk@angelo.edu
- This registration of the console gives you access to ONLY a gaming role. The gaming role gives you access to console related services ONLY. (This will not allow you to access the web, email, or IM services if you register you personal computer)
