Clean Access
Introduction
Access to the campus network from personal computers on campus is provided using Cisco Clean Access NAC technology. NAC stands for network admission control. Cisco Clean Access helps students by verifying those computers that connect to the network are operated by university affiliated parties and that those computers meet a minimum level of security. Beyond simply verifying a username and password, Clean Access requires that computers connecting to the campus network are updated with the latest security patches and are running an up-to-date virus scanner. Clean Access performs these checks through the installation of a light-weight agent on your computer.
What Clean Access will do:
- Verify your campus technology access account username and password.
- Check to see that the latest patches are installed for your computer’s operating system.
- Check to see that a virus scanner is installed if applicable.
- Check to see that the latest patches for your virus scanner are installed.
- Provide you with instructions to update your computer if necessary.
What Clean Access will not do:
- Clean Access will NOT scan for viruses on your computer - it makes sure you have software installed that can scan for viruses.
- Clean Access will NOT access files on your computer or network share.
- Clean Access will NOT watch where you surf or track who you e-mail.
- Clean Access will NOT give anyone the ability to "watch" the activities on your computer.
