ASU Earns ‘Military Friendly’ Superlative Award

December 08, 2016

In addition to already being designated a “Military Friendly School” by Victory Media for the eighth straight year, Angelo State University has now earned an additional Silver Medal Award for scoring in the top 30 percent of all Military Friendly Schools in the U.S. of similar size.

In November, ASU was one of about 1,200 U.S. institutions of higher education to earn the Military Friendly School designation, and is now one of only 541 schools to earn a superlative award. ASU’s Silver Medal Award is in the Small Public University (less than 10,000 students) category.

“All of our Military Friendly award recipients set the standard for excellence,” said Daniel Nichols, chief product officer of Victory Media. “They offer exceptional examples of what it means not just to build a program that meets federal requirements, but one that serves the military and veteran community from classrooms to careers.”

More than 8,800 U.S. schools were initially eligible, but only about 1,200 were awarded the Military Friendly School designation for 2017. The list was compiled by evaluating both public data sources and responses from Victory Media’s proprietary survey. Final ratings were determined by combining each institution’s survey scores with an assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence and loan default rates for all students – and specifically for student veterans.

The superlative awards showcase the most powerful and effective programs. Awards levels include Top 10 Gold, Gold Medal (top 20 percent), Silver Medal (top 30 percent) and Bronze Medal (top 40 percent).

The complete lists of Military Friendly Schools and superlative awards winners are available online at MilitaryFriendly.com with links to school profiles. The list will also be published in Victory Media’s 2017 Guide to Military Friendly Schools, as well as in the December issue of G.I. Jobs magazine.

Victory Media is a veteran-owned business with various related publications, including G.I. Jobs, Military Spouse and STEM Jobs magazines.
